5-WheresMyWater
Disney’s Where’s My Water? has so much going for it. On a surface level, its completely gorgeous presentation harkens back to Disney’s heyday. Swampy the alligator is brought to life with the same charm and energy as any of the company’s classic characters. But underneath this is an impressively robust physics puzzler that scratches at that addictive itch that exists deep inside most gamers. Completing each stage in a quick and dirty fashion is relatively simple, but finding the way to do so while collecting all three rubber ducks hidden within each level is a demanding joy. - Marty Sliva
4-BadPiggies
Bad Piggies is Rovio’s best game and a genuine must-play puzzler because it allows players to invent a solution for each stage, instead of just figuring out the single correct answer. Players begin each level by constructing an elaborate vehicle (most end up looking like mad-cap contraptions) designed to safely get your pig through the stage. Umbrella parachutes, soda bottle rockets, grappling hooks and plenty more can be slapped onto your flimsy structure, with spectacular failure often being just as entertaining as success. - Justin Davis
3-CutTheRope
The first time you see your little green monster buddy Om Nom frown in disappointment after you fail to feed him his favorite candy treat, something inside you clicks. Call it the evolution of instinct, or just the overwhelming power of cuteness, but after that moment, your mission in life becomes clear: you will never, ever let Om Nom down again. You will instead, slavishly Cut the Rope, in the correct order, and with perfect timing – whatever you have to do to see that adorable four-tooth smile again. It’s a one-two punch of tight mechanics, and brilliant character design that sucks you in and never lets go. - Vince Ingenito
2-TinyWings
Few games are as peaceful as Andreas Illiger’s phenomenal Tiny Wings. Guiding your chubby, colorful, and flightless bird by sliding and gliding through the world is a complete pleasure. The dynamic level design means that no two Tiny Wings playthroughs are the same, making this one of those games that you could easily play before bed for every night of the year. Combine this all with an absolutely adorable soundtrack, and it’s clear that Tiny Wings is one of the simplest pleasures in gaming. - Marty Sliva
1-InfinityBlade2
Many games have mimicked Infinity Blade 2’s clever one-on-one touch screen fighting system, but no game has surpassed it. It’s one of those incredibly rare and incredibly special games that manages to do virtually everything right. As a sequel it expands the scope of the game world and fixes the original’s shortcomings. As a mobile game it works for brief moments of fun or for lengthy marathon game sessions. And of course it certainly helps that nearly two years later the game is still gorgeous.
The App Store has matured considerably since Infinity Blade II launched in November 2011. The game may no longer tower far above all competition, but it’s still an the most intense, enjoyable and immensely replayable experience you can have on your phone or tablet. - Justin Davis
